Mobile Police Department Announces Hiring of New Officers

The Mobile Police Department is seeking qualified men and women to become police officers. As of today, February 20, 2015, the Mobile County Personnel Board will begin accepting applications. Those interested can submit their application online at www.PersonnelBoard.org or in person at 1809 Government Street. Applicants who successfully complete and pass all phases of the hiring process will be hired for the upcoming police academy classes to be held in 2015 and 2016.

This campaign is being conducted in conjunction with Chief James Barber's mission to make the city of Mobile the safest city in America with respect for everyone.

Starting police officers are paid on the following scale:

• $30,096 for a high school diploma or its equivalent
• $31,619 for an Associate Degree
• $33,220 for a Bachelor's Degree
• $34,901 for a Master's Degree

Benefits include:

• Health and Dental administered by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama.
• Prescription drug coverage administered by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama.
• Twenty (20) year retirement at age 55 to a maximum benefit of 72.5 percent of base pay at 30 years.
• Take home vehicle program.
• Uniforms, weapons and other police equipment.
• Basic life insurance and accidental death and disability paying two times annual salary to a maximum of $75,000.
• Dependent life insurance of $2,000 for each dependent covered by the city health plan.
• Employee assistance program providing confidential counseling for individual, family, couples, substance abuse and more.
• Paid holidays and sick leave.
• Built-in overtime.
• Per diem.
