Mobile Police Department Makes Robbery Arrest

On Sunday, June 07, 2015 at approximately 7:02 p.m. officers responded to the 400 block of Conti Street for a report of a Robbery to an Individual. The victim stated unknown male subject used physical force against her to remove her car key. The subject left the scene in the victim's 2007 Ford Explorer Sport.

On Tuesday, June 09, 2015, at approximately 3:25 p.m. Corporal John Walstad and Detective Deon Thornton spotted the vehicle in the area of Chin Street at Cut Off Road. Detectives attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver refused. After getting on Dr. Martin Luther King Avenue at Craft Highway the driver of the vehicle struck a 2010 Dodge Avenger at was stopped at a red light.

The driver and passenger of the Dodge Avenger were transported to a local hospital where they were listed in stable condition. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 45 year old Tony Witherspoon. Witherspoon was arrested, charged with Robbery 3rd, Felony Attempting to Elude and Felony Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and transported to a Mobile County Metro Jail.

There are pending Theft of Property charges from Mobile, and several other counties.
