Aug 15th, 2011

File Number: 11-08-2408

On August 14, 2011 at 11:15 p.m. Mobile Police responded to a vehicle crash with injuries on Dauphin Street at the southbound I-65 exit ramp. Upon arrival, officers found a 1997 GMC parking lot sweeper truck had collided with a 1991 Ford Taurus. Four people in the Taurus were transported to the University of South Alabama Medical Center, where a female passenger later died. The driver of the sweeper truck was not injured.

The investigation revealed the deceased female has been identified as 49 year old Luverta Jones from Mobile. Detectives have determined that the driver of the Taurus was on the southbound exit from I-65 and turning east on Dauphin Street when the sweeper truck traveling westbound on Dauphin Street collided with the Taurus in the intersection. Neither alcohol nor speed appeared to be factors in the crash.

Traffic Homicide Detectives will continue the investigation and more information will be released as it becomes available. Anyone with information is asked to call the Mobile Police Department at 208-7211, Crime Stoppers at 208-7000 or text to 274637 and include the keyword CRIME 411.
