Mobile Police Investigate a Traffic Homicide on University Boulevard

On January 5, 2011 at approximately 9:14 a.m. Mobile Police responded to University Boulevard and Gaillard Drive for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries. Upon the officers' arrival, they found a head on collision between a Ford Explorer and a Chevrolet Tahoe. Two females in the Explorer were pronounced dead on the scene, two children were transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The man driving the Tahoe was transported to the hospital with non life threatening injuries.
Preliminary results of the investigation reveal the two deceased females have been identified as 33 year old Katherine Andrews, and 52 year old Selma Sims. Both the deceased women were from Eight Mile Alabama. Detectives determined the driver of the Tahoe identified as 30 year old John Louis Reed, while traveling North on University Boulevard, crossed the center line and struck the Ford Explorer. Investigators found alcohol and items believed to be crack cocaine in the vehicle. Speed and weather are also considered to be factors in the crash.
John Louis Reed was transported to the University of South Alabama Medical Center, and upon release from the hospital, he will be arrested and charged with two counts of Murder, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
