Mobile Police Investigate Attempted Suicide of One in Custody

On Wednesday, August 8, 2012, at approximately 8:50 p.m., Mobile Police were dispatched to a report of a domestic dispute at the 8300 block of Woodbend Drive. After investigating the call, it was determined by officers that a 51 year-old male would be arrested and charged with Domestic Violence Third Degree.

The arrested subject was placed in the back of a patrol vehicle while the officers completed the required paperwork. While in the back seat of the patrol vehicle, the subject, still handcuffed behind his back, retrieved a hidden weapon and shot himself in an attempt to commit suicide.

The subject was transported to U.S.A. Medical Center where his condition is stable.

This case is being investigated by the Mobile Police Department's Homicide and Internal Affairs Units. Updates will be released as they become available.
