Mobile Police Investigating Family Dollar Homicide

UPDATE
On Wednesday, February 11, 2016, Mobile Police charged Ashton Garner, 20, with the murder of Gerald Westry. Surveillance video shows the confrontation between the two men inside the store that led to the victim being shot multiple times by Gardner.

Through investigation, police discovered that Gardner and the victim were known to each other and resided together. However, detectives are still investigating motive.

Because the surveillance video used in this case is evidence of the crime and there is no immediate danger to the public, it will not be released to the media at this time.

On Tuesday, February 9, 2016, at approximately 6:55 p.m. officers responded to Family Dollar located at 1342 Springhill Avenue for a report of One Shot. Officers located 40-year-old Gerald Westry inside the store suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Mobile Fire-Rescue responded and pronounced Westry dead on the scene.
