Mobile Police Make Arrest on LSA on Barker Drive

On October 17, 2014 at approximately 1:05 p.m., Mobile Police were dispatched to a report of a vehicle that left the roadway and struck a residence injuring several occupants within the residence at 1200 block of Barker Drive West. Upon arrival, officers observed a Toyota Tacoma which ran completely through the house. Police were advised the driver of the vehicle ran from the scene but was apprehended by area residents. Michael Cowart, 20 years old, was taken into custody without incident. The occupants of the house were transported to Providence Hospital, Mobile Infirmary Hospital and University of South Alabama Medical Center. Cowart was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries.

It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the incident. Cowart is charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident and Assault First Degree. Additional charges may be forthcoming.

Occupants of the house:
7 year-old female - skull fracture, serious condition
2 year-old male - suffered friction burns over 5% of the body, stable condition
10 year-old female - minor injuries, waiting to be released
23 year-old female - minor injuries, waiting to be released
36 year-old female - minor injuries, waiting to be released
