Mobile Police Officer Resigns Amid Drug Allegations

Mobile Police Chief James Barber announces the resignation, effective immediately, of Officer Michael Phelps, who was most currently assigned in Precinct Two.
On September 27, 2014, Officer Phelps was involved in a traffic crash in his city-issued vehicle at Airport and University Boulevards in which no parties were injured. Following Department protocol, Officer Phelps was tested for alcohol and drugs. Phelps' drug test was returned positive, at which time an Internal Affairs investigation began. Phelps has since resigned from the Department. The investigation is ongoing.
Phelps served the Mobile Police Department for over 16 years.
