Mobile Police Officer Terminated on Major Violations

Mar 11th, 2015

Mobile Police Chief James Barber announces the termination of Officer Fred Lawley, who was most currently assigned to the Third Precinct.

On Wednesday, February 18, 2015, a Trial Board was convened for the purpose of hearing evidence of four major violations. The members of this Board made the unanimous decision to find Officer Lawley guilty of all four major violations: Conduct Unbecoming, Unlawful Conduct, Violation of the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics and Truthfulness During a [Departmental] Investigation.

The Board recommended Lawley be dismissed from service with the Mobile Police Department. Chief Barber and Mayor Sandy Stimpson concurred with the findings of the Board.

Lawley has the right to an appeal through the Personnel Board, at which time details surrounding the events of his dismissal would be made available.

Lawley served the Mobile Police Department since June 2011.
