A Mobile man has been sentenced to nearly 5 years in prison for illegally possessing an unregistered machinegun.
Mobile police officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop in December 2021, but Zukinski Marquis Tomon Spelton, 25, a passenger, exited the car and ran, leading to a short foot pursuit.
While in pursuit of Spelton, officers recovered a Glock 9mm pistol equipped with a machinegun-conversion device, known as a “Glock switch”, along the way. Upon further investigation, officers determined the pistol had a fully loaded, 30-round extended magazine and a chambered round.
A U.S. District Judge ordered Spelton to serve a three-year term of supervised release once he serves his initial 57-months in prison.
The Mobile Police Department, along with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, investigated this case. Mobile Police Chief Paul Prine says our streets are much safer thanks to the coordination of various agencies to make sure Spelton is incarcerated and not posing a danger in our city.
