Mobile Police Update Operation I.M.P.A.C.T.

Jan 14th, 2013

In July 2012 Mobile Police Chief Micheal T. Williams, along with Mayor Sam Jones announced the formation of Operation I. M. P. A. C. T. (Integrated Municipal Police Anti-Crime Team), a unified, integrated taskforce including multiple divisions of the Department tackling the problem of guns and drugs in Mobile.

The first phase of this four-phase operation will continue. This phase uses intense street sweeps identifying problem areas and violent hotspots, utilizing the combined efforts of the Narcotics Unit, Intelligence Unit, MCSENT, Jaguar Unit and Tactical Response Unit, creating an increased police presence around these areas, residences and businesses.

The results of the first phase have been very successful with the arrest of 2,091 people resulting in 3,027 Misdemeanors, 802 Felonies, and 129 guns seized.

"Operation I.M.P.A.C.T. has been an effective initiative that is attacking crime on a grassroots level in neighborhoods, and is sending a message that Mobile will not tolerate criminal activity," said Mobile Mayor Sam Jones. "The Police Department is to be commended for its success with this initiative. Illegal guns are being taken off the streets and criminals are being locked up."
Operation I.M.P.A.C.T. will continue and more results will be released as they become available.
