MPD K-9 Unit Search Makes Drug Bust at Motel 6

Dec 9th, 2015

Approximately 461 grams of marijuana was discovered while conducting a drug interdiction at hotels and motels along I-10 in Tillman's Corner. The Mobile Police Narcotics/Vice Unit and K-9 Unit found the marijuana at Motel 6 located at 5488 Inn Road on December 8, 2015.

Accompanied by Cpl. Chris Giattina, K-9 police working dog Aron gave a final indication for the odor of narcotics on an unoccupied 2016 Toyota Camry rental vehicle. Surveillance was maintained until police saw 49-year-old Bekianne Covalt attempting to enter the vehicle. Upon searching this vehicle, police discovered approximately 177 grams of marijuana in the trunk. Covalt gave consent to search her hotel room where an additional 281 grams of medical marijuana and six (.5 grams each) cannabis oil vapor cartridges were found.

Covalt was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana First Degree and Use/Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
