With a new school year beginning, the Mobile Police Department reminds drivers to slow down and pay attention to the school zone speed limits. With the responsibility of crossing 7,000 students on average at 47 schools, enforcers will be out to ensure students safety.
On the first day of school, Aug. 6, traffic safety enforcement was conducted at various school zones during the morning and afternoon hours. Officers issued a total of 142 citations in the school zones, of which 46 were for speeding.
The area of Girby Road at Lloyds Lane, Cranford Burns Middle School, had the highest number for speeding citations written, followed by the area of Beauregard St. at Lawrence St., which is Calloway-Smith Middle School.
The Mobile Police Department will continue monitoring traffic in school zones. Drivers are urged to pay attention to the crossing guards who keep kids safe utilizing school crossings. Please think students safety first while passing through school zones.
