MPD to Host 5K to Benefit Prichard Pensioners

On Saturday, June 11, 2011 at 7:30 a.m., the Mobile Police Department will host the MPD 5K Foot Chase at Medal of Honor (Cottage Hill) Park. This is a public event and one of several department-wide efforts to raise money for retired Prichard city employees who have not received their pensions. The run will also feature a one-mile Fun Run followed by the McGruff Dash.

The MPD 5K Foot Chase will use a cross-country course through the woods and on the trails of Medal of Honor Park. The Fun Run is approximately one mile on grass fields and sidewalk. The McGruff Dash, which will be led by MPD's McGruff the Crime Dog, will be approximately 100 meters. Fluids will be provided along the courses.

Runners and walkers may pre-register by mail by filling out an entry form, located on the Department's web site, www.MobilePD.org. Entries should be postmarked by June 4, 2011. Pre-registration is also available at McCoy Outdoor in Mobile or Running Wild in Fairhope until 4:00 p.m. on June 9, 2011. Online registration is available by www.imathlete.com until midnight June 9, 2011. Race day registration will be available at Medal of Honor Park from 6:15 - 7:15 a.m.

Entry fees are as follows:
Pre-registered 5K Adults: $16 Day of Race 5K Adults: $20
Pre-registered 5K Children: $8(15 and under) Day of Race 5K Children: $15
Pre-registered Fun Run: $8 Day of Race Fun Run: $10
McGruff Dash (10 yrs and under): Free without shirt; $8 with shirt
Entry fee includes a short sleeve tee shirt. For the no-shirt option, subtract $3 from entry fee.
Awards will be given in the following categories:
Top male and female Overall, Masters, Grandmasters, Senior Grandmasters and Walker. Top three male and female in age groups: 9 and under, 11-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74 and 75-99.

Food and beverages will be provided after the race. All registered participants will be eligible for the many door prizes, donated by local companies and organizations.
