The Mobile Police department utilized specialize patrol units from each of its five precincts to proactively target crimes commonly associated with New Years celebration.

On December 31, 2008, from 6:00 P.M till 6: 00 A.M. the Mobile Police Department received a total of 166 calls, 119 were shots fired complaints and 47 were Fireworks complaints.

In Comparison to last year the Mobile Police department received 188 shots fired complaints and 85 fireworks complaints.

On January 01, 2009, at approximately 2:30 A.M. officers responded to USA Children and Women's Hospital in reference to one shot. Investigation revealed that a seven (7) year old sustained a gun shot wound to the left leg by a stray bullet. The injuries were minor.

On January 1, 2009, Daniel Andrew Jeffrey was arrested for discharging an AK-47 in the air.
