ONE STRUCK AT GOVERNMENT BLVD. AND ROYAL STREET

On February 22, 2009 at approximately 0404 hours, officers responded to the area of Government Blvd. and Royal Street in reference to a report of a male subject struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 35 year old male victim that had been struck by a vehicle.

Officers discovered that the male victim was a member of the United States Navy and was in Mobile from the docked USS vessel located in the Mobile Bay Port.

Members of the Mobile Fire/ Rescue responded to the scene and transported the victim to the University of South Alabama Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition. The victim's condition was later upgraded to serious.

The Mobile Police Department Traffic Accident Investigation Unit was notified and responded to the scene to conduct the investigation. Investigation revealed that the male victim was attempting to cross Government Blvd. from the north side of Royal Street to the south side when a vehicle traveling from east bound Government Blvd. struck the victim as he attempted to cross Government Blvd. from Royal Street in front of the vehicle.
