Enrollment is open for the Mobile Police Department Citizens Police Academy. The 10-week program starts Sept. 24. It’s designed to give Mobile citizens a greater understanding of police procedures and to learn about the major departments and their specific functions. Classes are held on Tuesdays from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. There are three Saturday excursions.
The Citizens Police Academy is free but class size is limited. There are 24 seats available. Applications are taken on a first-come, first-serve basis. The deadline to apply is Aug. 30.
Participants must be a resident of Mobile or its police jurisdiction, and be at least 21 years of age with no significant arrest history. They must present a valid Alabama driver's license and be willing to undergo a background check.
