Police Investigate a Homicide on Dog River Drive North

On Wednesday March 23, 2010 at 6:05 PM Mobile Police responded to the 2300 block of Dog River Drive North for a report of one shot. Upon the officer's arrival, they found 29 year old James Orr with a gunshot wound to the leg. Mr. Orr was involved in a verble argument with Mr. Richard Beckham at a residence located at 1700 block of Bass Drive before the shooting occurred. During the argument Mr. Beckham pointed a handgun at Mr. Orr. Mr. Orr left the location and went to a nearby residence located on Dog River Drive North. A short time after Beckham arrived, fired a shot outside, then forced his way inside of the residence, fired several shots striking Mr. Orr in the leg. Beckham fled the scene on foot, but returned to the scene minutes later to turn himself in to Police. Mr. Beckham was arrested for Burglary First Degree and Assault First Degree and transported to Metro Jail. Mr. Orr was transported to USA Medical Center and his condition was deemed critical.

On March 24, 2010 Mr. Orr succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at USA Medical Center. The Mobile Police Homicide Unit is in conference with the District Attorney's Office about upgrading Mr. Beckham's Assault charge to Murder.
