POLICE INVESTIGATE DOUBLE HOMICIDE ON EAGLE DRIVE

On May 27, 2009 at approximately 1:15 AM patrol officers were flagged down to the 1600 block of Eagle Drive by a female who told police that a shooting had occurred in her residence. Officers surrounded the house and apprehended forty-two year old Derrick Penn as he exited the rear of the residence. Initial discoveries of the officers were two victims of apparent gunshot wounds. One victim was Forty-three year old Demetrius Powe which was pronounced deceased at the scene and the second victim was Forty-three year old Janet Penn which was transported to USA Medical Center where she was later pronounced deceased.

Homicide Detectives responded to the scene to begin the investigation. Investigators were able to determine that the suspect Derrick Penn is the estranged husband of the victim Janet Penn. Janet Penn's nineteen year old daughter was in the house but was unharmed.

Derrick Penn was arrested and charged with two counts of Murder. The investigation will continue and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
