Dec 2nd, 2009

File Number: M-09-12-0284

On Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at approximately 9:30 A.M. Mobile Police responded to a report of one shot at 5510 Quail Run Drive East. The residence is an established group home for mentally challenged individuals. Upon arrival officers discovered the victim, 32 year old Cindy Longmire suffering from at least one gunshot wound to her head.

Homicide investigators responded to the scene to conduct the investigation. Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim had been shot by her ex- boyfriend and children's father, 34 year old Demetrius Thomas following an ongoing domestic dispute between both parties. After shooting Longmire, Thomas fled the scene eluding responding officers.

Investigators learned that the victim's children attended Sidney Phillip's Preparatory School and Spencer Elementary School which is located behind Phillips. Mobile Police responded to both schools and took the children into custody as a precautionary measure. Phillip's Preparatory was subsequently placed on lockdown to ensure the safety of the children at the school until Thomas could be located and apprehended by authorities.

At approximately 11:23 A.M., Mobile Police apprehended suspect Thomas in the Phoenix Park Apartment complex at the intersection of Woodlawn Drive East and Woodlawn Drive North. Thomas was taken into custody without incident to be transported to police headquarters and interviewed by detectives. Phillip's Preparatory School was released from lockdown status and returned to normal operations. Thomas will be charged with one count of Murder.

This investigation will continue, and more information will be provided as it becomes available. Mobile Police are encouraging anyone that has information regarding this incident to contact us at 208-7211 or Crime Stoppers at 208-7000.
