Public Has Name for MPD Mounted Unit's New Horse

After receiving more than 1,500 suggested names from the public, Merlin Mystic Ghost is the name that has been selected for the Mobile Police Mounted Unit's new horse. Jasmini Bowen, the civilian who submitted this name, was invited to and recognized in an official naming ceremony on Friday, January 22. She nailed the horse's name plate above its stall.

Merlin's debut was at Mobile's first 2016 Mardi Gras parade, the Conde Cavaliers parade, and will work throughout the carnival season.

The naming ceremony was held at the Mounted Barn behind the Mobile Police Training Academy building located at 1251 Virginia Street.
