Strict Enforcement of Open-Container Ordinance in Downtown Entertainment District

Jul 13th, 2016

The Mobile Police Department will strictly enforce the Open-Container Ordinance in the downtown entertainment district. The outside consumption of alcoholic beverages is permitted but with conditions.

According to the ordinance, it is unlawful to possess, drink or attempt to drink any alcoholic beverage in a can, bottle, or glass container on the streets, sidewalks, rights-of-way, and parking lots.

An alcoholic beverage can be removed from a downtown licensed establishment only if it is in a paper or plastic cup with a commercially printed name and/or logo of a designated licensee. A paper or plastic cup with the "LODA" logo obtained from Main Street Mobile is also an approved container for alcoholic beverages.

The size of any approved alcohol beverage container cannot exceed 16 fluid ounces.

Police will issue citations to individuals who don't comply with the Open-Container law.

The Mobile Police Department would like everyone to have an enjoyable time in Downtown Mobile but safety is most important. For police assistance, call 251-208-7211 or dial 911.
