Update on Officer-Involved Accident on Government Street

An investigation is still ongoing into this weekend's officer-involved accident on Government Street. Preliminary results reveal that Mobile Police Officer Richard Brown was traveling west on Government Street at approximately 10:25 p.m., responding to a call, when Michael Bragg and Mary Bragg stepped in front of his police cruiser from the sidewalk on the north side of the street. Results indicate Officer Brown had a green light and speed did not appear to be a factor. Mr. Bragg succumbed to his injuries and his wife is listed in critical condition at USA Medical Center.

Officer Brown, age 31, was hired with the Mobile Police Department in February of 2011. Before his tenure with Mobile, Officer Brown had 2 ½ years experience as a police officer with other departments in the State.

More results of this investigation may be released as they are revealed.
