The Mobile Police Department would like to extend an open invitation to the media for the monthly Officer of the Month Luncheon to be held Tuesday, November 18, 2008, at 12:00 p.m. The Luncheon will take place at the Knights of Columbus building, located at 3051 Pleasant Valley Road. The luncheon is sponsored by the Mobile Optimist Club.

Officer Bradley Latham will be honored as officer of the month for the month of October (2008). Officer Latham is a four-year veteran of the Mobile Police Department and is currently assigned to the Third Precinct. Officer Latham has been selected officer of the month for his exemplary performance and dedication to duty during the month of October.

On October 5, 2008, Officer Latham conducted a routine traffic stop near the intersection of Government Street and Ann Street. An NCIC check of the vehicle's passenger revealed an active felony warrant with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department for Escape Third Degree.

On October 11, 2008, Officer Latham and other officers were working an off duty job at Sunshine Skate Center located at 900 Hillcrest Road. Officer Latham escorted two juveniles from the business for enticing a disturbance. Shortly after escorting the juveniles outside of the business, Officer Latham observed the same juveniles exiting a vehicle in the parking lot. The juveniles began to run and Officer Latham gave chase. Officer Latham was able to catch both juveniles who had just broken into the vehicle. Officer Latham recovered several cassette discs from the juveniles that were taken from the vehicle. Both juvenile subject's were transported to Strickland Youth Center and charged with Unlawful Breaking and Entering of a Vehicle.

On October 15, 2008, Officer Latham conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Donald Street and Florence Street. An NCIC inquiry on the driver revealed two active felony warrants for Assault Second Degree with the Mobile County Sheriff's Department and a misdemeanor warrant with the city for Domestic Violence Third Degree.

On October 17, 2008, Officer Latham was on routine patrol in the 500 block of Forrest Avenue when he stopped several individuals loitering for the purpose of drug activity. While conducting a check of the subjects, one subject dropped a Discover Credit card on the ground. Officer Latham ran a check of the card's serial number which revealed it was stolen. The individual was arrested and charged with Illegal Possession of a Credit Card/ Debit Card.

On October 18, 2008, Officer Latham was working a special assignment in the area of Florida Street and Emogene Street due to reports of recent burglaries. At approximately 0400 hours, the police operator dispatched a complaint of a burglary in progress inside the main office of the Pathway Apartments. Officer Latham quickly and cautiously responded to the scene and observed the subject inside of the office. The subject ran out the back door of the location, but was immediately apprehended by Officer Latham. The subject was charged with Burglary Third Degree.

On October 19, 2008, Officer Latham was diligently patrolling the area of Ann Street and Adams Street in reference to a rash of reported individual robberies. Officer Latham, utilizing his keen sense of observation, spotted a suspicious vehicle occupied by several subjects. Officer Latham conducted a routine check on one of the subjects which revealed an active felony warrant for Receiving Stolen Property Second Degree. The subject was booked into Metro Jail.

On October 20, 2008, Officer Latham was on routine patrol in the area of St. Charles Street. He observed a vehicle in the remote area with its lights off. The vehicle was occupied by three suspicious subjects. Officer Latham's knowledge of the streets and the criminal mind, guided by his natural instinct, stood firmly that the subjects were engaged in some type of criminal activity. Officer Latham summoned the assistance of backing officers to his location. Upon conducting a check of the subjects, Officer Latham was able to discover that the passenger of the vehicle was in possession of a stolen Ruger 45 pistol. The subject was arrested for Receiving Stolen Property Second Degree. The rear occupant of the vehicle was discovered to have two active felony warrants for Unlawful Breaking and Entering of a Vehicle.

At the end of October, Officer Latham was responsible for answering 68 calls for service, 12 felony arrests, and 7 misdemeanor arrests. Officer Latham was certainly a busy Policeman during the Month of October 2008. His actions have definitely promoted the image of the Mobile Police Department as a result of his professional attitude and remarkable abilities.
