Officers Clear Hotel Guest From a Fire

On December 21, 2010 at approximately 4:08 a.m. Corporal Larry Toland responded to the Best Western Hotel on Battleship Parkway and observed a large working fire. Corporal Toland then notified other officers to respond to the hotel, and prior to the arrival of the fire department, Corporal Toland, and officers Conditt, Evans, Johnson, Bouler, Derkins, Davis, Hahlen, and Sergeant Franks evacuated the two floors of the hotel. The officers were able to clear out 48 rooms of the hotel while flames were showing from the roof.

These officers acted quickly and put the safety of others before themselves. Chief Williams stated the officer's actions were "truly heroic". No injuries were reported from the incident.
