POLICE INVESTIGATE A HOMICIDE ON MARYVALE STREET SOUTH

On July 9, 2009 at approximately 11:30 PM Mobile Police responded to the 1700 block of Maryvale Street South for a report of one shot. Upon officers arrival they found twenty eight year old Lavelle Johnson with multiple gunshot wounds. Mobile Fire Department responded and Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mobile Police Homicide detectives responded to the scene. While on the scene detectives were able to determine that Lavelle Johnson was attempting to settle an altercation between two other men when one of the men produced a handgun and shot Johnson multiple times, and at least one time in the back. The suspect left the scene before officers arrived.
Detectives have identified thirty-two year old Walter Jeffery Silas as responsible for the shooting death of Lavelle Johnson and a warrant for Murder has been signed for his arrest. The investigation will continue, and more information will be release as it becomes available.
