May 7th, 2009

File Number: 09-05-0612

On May 4, 2009 at 2:50 PM police responded to the Cash-N-A- Dash located at 5646 Old Pascagoula Rd. for a report of a robbery. Upon arrival police were able to determine that a robbery had occurred at that location. Police had also received a call in reference to shots being fired during the incident. The responding officers located twenty two year old James Timmons with apparent gunshot wounds in a parking lot near the store where the robbery had occurred, and was declared deceased at the scene. Police also had eighteen year old Durrell Smith detained at the Super 8 Motel on Tillmans Corner Parkway. Smith was arrested and charged with Robbery First Degree.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene to begin the investigation. The preliminary investigations suggest that James Timmons was also a suspect in the robbery. Detectives have determined William Pitman which is the owner of the Cash-N-A-Dash, had fired the weapon that killed Timmons.

The investigation will continue and further information of the incident will be provided as it becomes available. Anyone with information about this incident should contact the Mobile Police Department at 208-7211, or call Crime Stoppers at 208-7000.
