POLICE INVESTIGATE A SHOOTING ON POLK ST. (UPDATE)

On April 28, 2009 approximately 4:45 PM officers responded to the area of Polk St and Antwerp St. for a report of a victim with gunshot wounds. Upon their arrival police received information that a victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds had left the scene before police arrived. The victim was transported to Springhill Medical Center by Mobile Fire Department. While on scene the officers were notified of another victim on Robert E Lee St with a single gunshot wound. Officers located this victim and he was transported to Mobile Infirmary Medical Center by Mobile Fire Department.

The incident began after an argument between the victim and Lafrance McCantns. McCants then produced a handgun and fired multiple shots at the victim striking him three times in the face, torso and leg. The second victim was struck by gunfire while in the area of the incident. No charges will be filed in reference to the second victim being shot because the incident happened in self defense.

Lafrance McCants has an active warrant for Assault First Degree in reference to this incident. He is awaiting trail for a Murder charge from 2007 where McCants is responsible for the death of Robert McDonald on Sligo St in Mobile. McCants is currently out $50,000 bond in this case. McCants last known address is 1652 Wexford St in Maysville. Lafrance McCants is considered to be armed and dangerous.
