Police Investigate an Officer Involved Shooting on Herman Drive (Update)

On October 20, 2009 at approximately 10:30 PM Mobile Police officers responded to the 700 Block of Herman Drive to locate Cornelius Johnson during an ongoing investigation involving a sexual misconduct with his 15 year old daughter. Upon the officer's arrival, they encountered Johnson inside of the apartment, and shots were fired between Johnson and police. Police then secured a perimeter around the apartment, and notified Mobile Police Tactical Unit and Mobile Fire Rescue to respond to the scene. After assessing the scene, police found Cornelius Johnson dead inside of the apartment.

Mobile Police Homicide detectives and the Internal Affairs Unit responded to the scene to begin an investigation. The officers involved have been identified as Corporal Mike Shavers and Officer Emanuel Dotch. This investigation will be ongoing and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
