Police Investigate Traffic Fatality on Interstate 65

On December 1, 2009 at approximately 9:30 P.M. Mobile Police responded to a report of a traffic collision on north bound Interstate 65. The accident involved an 18 wheeler tractor trailer and the driver of a Ford Explorer.
The driver of the Ford Explorer, identified as 34 year old Denise Roney was pronounced deceased on the scene by responding paramedics.
Members of the Mobile Police Department's Traffic Accident Investigation Unit responded to the scene to conduct the investigation. Preliminary investigation revealed that Roney was driving her vehicle from east bound Airport Boulevard exiting onto the entrance ramp to north bound Interstate 65 when she lost control of the vehicle attributed to heavy rain and slick roads, and entered onto the north bound Interstate 65 traffic. The driver of the 18 wheeler was traveling north bound Interstate 65 as Roney entered onto the interstate out of control and subsequently struck Roney's vehicle fatally wounding her.
The investigation into this case remains continuous and further information will be released as it becomes available.
