Safe Shopping Zone Highlights for Public

Nov 24th, 2009

File Number: 09-11-Safe Shopping Zone

Welcome! We are all looking forward to the upcoming shopping season. As usual, the City of Mobile would like to make your shopping experience safe and enjoyable!

Working towards this endeavor, a few years ago, we created the "Safe Shopping Zone" initiative. This initiative is to ensure a safe shopping environment for businesses, their patrons and their employees, while deterring criminal elements.

Bel-Air and Springdale Mall are part of the Safe Shopping Zone program. Both will be equipped with Sky Watch towers, video towers, motorcycle officers, mounted officers, and other police units. Officers will also be on Seg-ways. The Narcotics/Vice Unit will conduct undercover stings, as well. This is a stepped up version of our all ready in place police surveillance. Each mall will also be equipped with a police command van.

Through-out the city of Mobile, other shopping centers will participate in this program. Mobile Police Officers will also be spread throughout other shopping corridor areas to include Airport Blvd., Schillinger Road, Saint Stephens Road and other areas that present shopping opportunities for the public.

Each shopping center that participates in this program has a Quality of Life officer (A police officer designated for this program) patrolling their area, a decal to put up on their business, as well as an invitation to meet monthly to discuss specific concerns.

These added precautions are to ensure that your shopping experience is the best it can be!

We will begin this supercharged surveillance November 25, and it will continue throughout the entire shopping season.

If you would like your business to be included in this program, please call 208-1936.

We expect this to be a happy, fun-filled, safe shopping season!
