Business owners and employees are encouraged to comply with underage drinking laws, especially during the holiday season. Beginning this weekend, the Mobile Police Department Underage Drinking Unit will check for illegal alcohol sales to underage individuals.
Minor operatives will enter package, grocery and convenience stores and attempt to purchase alcoholic beverages. If the cashier asks for identification, the minor operative will leave the store. However, if the cashier sells the alcoholic beverage, a citation will be issued to the cashier.
Through MPD’s Office of Strategic Initiatives, the Underage Drinking Unit enforces underage drinking compliance year-round.
