UPDATE: Mobile Police Investigate Officer-Involved Shooting

On Monday, May 18, 2015, at approximately 8:10 p.m., officers responded to the 7900 block of Tanner Williams Road for a report of a possible home invasion with shots fired.

Upon arrival, officers discovered 42 year-old James Joseph Fulton fired several shots from an SKS assault rifle at the homeowner, who fled from the location. Police arrived on scene as Fulton was attempting to steal a vehicle from the home. Fulton, displaying erratic behavior, then fired at police, striking two patrol vehicles occupied by officers.

Officer Alex Jones was able to return fire, striking Fulton once in the elbow. Fulton was transported to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries and will be facing multiple charges upon his release from the hospital.

Mobile Police will hold a press conference today, May 19, 2015 at 2:15 p.m. at Mobile Police Headquarters at 2460 Government Street.
